The sites are strategically located close to all major parcel delivery hubs to provide nationwide next day service with late cut-off times.  Revolutionary technology has optimised the pick route and process based on basket size, product dimension and product weight.  This has led to significant reductions in picking time and parcel packaging.  The in-house software, which is unique to Yusen Logistics, is part of a comprehensive and system driven solution for omni-channel operations.

“Customers are driving the need for retailers to adapt their current supply chain operations to provide a more streamlined approach that delivers the same high level of service, quality and reliability across all channels.  We’ve applied our expertise in this area to re-engineer a customer’s e-commerce solution and, within 6 months, we’ve already seen volumes increase by over 80%”, commented Benjamin Bird, General Manager of Solution Design for Yusen Logistics.  He further added: “For this operation, the volume growth was achieved by improving the current service levels.  This resulted in increased repeat custom and higher end customer conversion rates.  Through Yusen Logistics’ solution, orders online are now available for next day delivery to home addresses or to department stores for end-user collection.  Whilst KPIs ensure a high level of service is consistently achieved across all channels.”

Understanding e-commerce buying patterns has further improved end customer conversion rates by more effectively managing peaks.  This is demonstrated by Yusen Logistics’ industry leading 100% OTIF (on-time-in-full) for e-commerce operations during Black Friday, Christmas and product launches.  This is together with a complete reverse logistics service that includes quick and easy pre-paid returns, alongside an in-house technical team for the checking, testing and regrading of goods.

Commenting on the next steps for the operation, Benjamin added: “We’ve developed a comprehensive logistics service tailored for e-commerce including kitting, returns, testing and packaging.  We’re now looking at further improving our e-fulfilment operations by completely minimising carrier loss – which is currently one of the best in the industry at just 0.4%.”

Yusen Logistics is the first Japanese air freight forwarder at Kansai International Airport to be awarded the prestigious IATA-CEIV Pharma certification.

CEIV Pharma (the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) certification is a quality assurance program for the temperature-controlled transportation of pharmaceutical products, developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The program comprehensively covers Good Distribution Practices (GDP), and establishes guidelines that help supply chain partners develop and maintain safe air transportation practices for pharmaceutical products.

As a part of its strategy to turn Kansai International Airport into an international cargo hub, Kansai Airports is in the process of improving the quality of how it handles pharmaceutical products. They established the KIX Pharma Community, combined with joint CEIV Pharma certification, to provide even safer, high-quality pharmaceutical transportation in August 2017.

We participate in the KIX Pharma Community, and our work with providing safe and high-quality services through quality control and operational improvements have now been rewarded with the achievement of IATA-CEIV certification. It was the first Japanese freight forwarder to acquire CEIV Pharma certification at Kansai International Airport.

We are developing and improving our service to the pharmaceutical industry globally.

In November 2016, we became the first Japanese air freight forwarder at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to be awarded the prestigious IATA-CEIV Pharma certification. And in March 2017, we also obtained GDP certification at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

In Asia, we became the first logistics business in Indonesia to acquire GDP certification at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in July 2016. And in March 2018, we became the first logistics provider to obtain GDP certification for FCL ocean freight forwarding from and to Tanjung Perak Port and for air freight forwarding from and to Juanda International Airport near Surabaya, Indonesia.

Yusen Logistics acquired CEIV Pharma certification at Kansai International Airport, with the aim of establishing a high-quality pharmaceutical logistics service, and globally expanding its supply chain and logistics services that cater to customer needs.

Driven by Yusen Logistics’ core transportation management system, VISIONi offers a stringently controlled operation across ninety GDP approved hauliers as part of its Control Tower solution for the pan European healthcare supply chain. Real-time 24 hour monitoring minimises risk, whilst security bulletins continuously respond to evolving intelligence – providing the opportunity to alert drivers of changing crime hotspots and amend routes according to the latest sensitive or banned locations.

Live data is communicated through route status boards and pre-emptive alerts to provide accurate arrival times. Alongside this, fully automated reporting further improves process efficiencies, such as temperature tracking reports available on arrival to enable a faster stock-in process, and daily customer delivery schedules for advanced planning and allocation of resources – including purchase order information, vehicle registrations and driver names.

The full 4PL visibility that VISIONi offers provides an unrivalled quality of data, enabling a true understanding of key KPIs, from OTIF to delivery on-time and dwell time at sites. This is together with VISIONi’s market leading capability to fully integrate with other Haulier tracking systems,  making it fully autonomous and independent.  Even for single use hauliers, an android app ensures a short-term solution so that essential information is always readily accessible.

Martin Shield, Head of IT Business Systems at Yusen Logistics, commented: “We’re excited to be leading the market with VISIONi. With all market sectors facing growing pressures, optimum supply chain visibility has never been more important. It means that both logistics partner and client can see potential issues as they develop whilst also offering long-term opportunities to see what we’re consistently doing well and to focus on where we can improve to ensure our customers always receive the best possible service.”

Following the implementation of VISIONi into Yusen Logistics’ pan-European Healthcare solution, where the importance of high value active ingredient, limited shelf lives and a growing demand for just-in-time requirements has led to high demand for total visibility, Yusen Logistics is now looking at applications for VISIONi across their other core verticals; Aerospace, Automotive, Food, Retail, and Technology.

Yusen Logistics (Lao) Co., Ltd. Established

Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. has established Yusen Logistics (Lao) Co., Ltd. in Lao People's Democratic Republic. Operations will commence on January, 2019.

The real GDP growth rate in Laos has remained at around 7% in recent years, with high economic growth rates continuing. Infrastructure development is proceeding mainly in the Economic Corridor of the Mekong region. In addition to investment from Japan and China, foreign companies that have already established operations in Thailand as Thailand+1 are attracting attention. Laos, a landlocked country surrounded by China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, is expected to see further demand for logistics as a hub connecting countries with the advantages of its location at the heart of the Mekong region.

Since 2014, Yusen Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has provided logistics services to Laos through its distributors, but we decided to establish the Laos corporation because of the anticipated demand for logistics in line with further economic growth. This will strengthen our sales capabilities in anticipation of rising demand for logistics, as well as create a smoother operation system. The new company will have its headquarters in Vientiane and its branch in Pakse to provide a range of logistics services, including ocean and air freight forwarding, domestic delivery, cross-border truck transportation, and customs clearance, as well as warehousing and logistics consultancy services.

Following the establishment of Cambodia in 2013 and Myanmar Corporation in 2014, the establishment of a new corporation in Laos has resulted in the development of a company network in all of the Mekong economic zones, where expectations for further economic development are growing. By leveraging our own network, we will provide faster and higher-quality logistics services and continue to meet the diverse needs of our customers by leveraging our global network.

President’s message for the New Year

$
0
0

I would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year.

To begin with, I would like to thank all of you for working hard every day to realize our Long-term Vision, TRANSFORM 2025.

Review of 2018

Looking back over the past year, there have been concerns that the global economy would be adversely affected by trade frictions and so on, the future prospects of which remain unclear to this day. However, the economy has continued to realize moderate growth on the back of favorable employment conditions and solid capital investment, while demand for freight forwarding and transportation in the logistics market has also maintained a bullish tone. At Yusen Logistics, too, the efforts of all of you have meant that our ocean freight forwarding business has expanded since last year, while we have also managed to improve gross profits in our air freight forwarding business. Our logistics business, too, has increased sales through a variety of means, including investing in emerging countries and entering new fields of business. All Group employees have worked hard to turn insight into action and improve the quality of our services. As a united team that is expanding its scope worldwide and that embodies the ideal to “Create Better Connections,” I believe that 2018 as a whole has been an extremely positive year for the company.

TRANSFORM 2025

This spring will mark the start of the 3rd year of TRANSFORM 2025. The Vision, Mission, and Values that we redefined in our Long-term Vision have penetrated far and wide among the company’s workforce of more than 24,000 employees. I would like to thank you all for your diligent efforts in carrying out the management strategies laid out in TRANSFORM 2025, and for steadily pressing forward in pursuit of shared goals.

From a global perspective, there has been clear progress in the establishment of multi-national free trade systems: the Japan-EU economic partnership agreement has been signed off, while TPP11 has also come into force. On the other hand, the rise of protectionism, as exemplified by Brexit and the U.S.-China trade frictions, have led to increased uncertainty in the global economy. Innovative new technologies that make use of AI, IoT, and big data—which are collectively known as “the 4th industrial revolution”—have also resulted in the generation of new business models, and this is bringing about significant change in societies and economies alike.

Faced with such a mutable business environment, it is important that we are able to respond in a flexible manner. We must therefore make steady progress with our core strategies, both to achieve our Mission and to realize the Long-term Vision of the company. In order to become “the world’s preferred supply chain logistics company,” we must not slacken our pace but, instead, seek to achieve further growth. When we do not know which way to turn, when we have difficulties making the correct decision, and when we are racked with doubt, let us look to the four core components of our business strategy, and return to the behavior models.

Each and every employee is an important company asset and has a leading role to play in supporting our core business activities. I would like once again to record my gratitude to you all for your daily hard work. At the same time, I have great hopes that you will engage even more proactively in voluntary initiatives in the future.

Compliance

It goes without saying that our business activities must adhere both to the laws of the countries we operate in and to international rules and regulations. A failure to do so will lead to Yusen Logistics immediately losing the trust of society, and potentially even result in an existential risk to the company. It is for this reason absolutely vital that we recognize the risks of legal and regulatory violations, engage in our work with great awareness of the dangers we face, and continue to work hard to prevent compliance transgressions. Last year, we sought to raise awareness of the importance of compliance by implementing training programs and revising the Yusen Logistics Group Code of Conduct, which lays out behavioral standards that company employees must adhere to at all times. We will continue to implement such training and prevention activities in the future. I once again ask you all to maintain a strong awareness of compliance, and to work hard to ensure that you thoroughly abide by any and all relevant laws and regulations at all times.

Conclusion

As laid out in the TRANSFORM 2025 financial and handling targets, fiscal 2019 is set to be the year in which we fully achieve the quantitative goals of the first 3 years of our Long-term Vision. Consequently, it behooves us to accelerate our growth and steadily achieve results, so that we create a springboard for the next 3 years. Let us face up to changes in the market, understand the true, subconscious needs of our customers, and both focus our collective strength and increase our drive as we aim to accomplish the goals set out in TRANSFORM 2025.

So that all employees can achieve superior results, the company will concentrate on effectively sharing information between departments and establishing an organizational culture that encourages innovation and overhauls outdated working methods. The realization of these goals will contribute to an openness that enables employees to express any doubts they have and consult with those around them; this, in turn, will lead to better communication, and reinforce our governance. The company will also seek to demonstrate even greater respect for diversity, establish opportunities that enable its employees to continue undertaking new challenges, and create rewarding workplaces with a high level of employee engagement. Establishing a new corporate culture is no easy task; however, it is possible for us—who, as constituents of the Yusen Logistics Brand, share the same values—to do so. Let us make sure we are not constrained by old frameworks, and embark together on new challenges.

Finally, I sincerely hope that you and all your families will enjoy a healthy and fulfilling 2019. Thank you, and a Happy New Year to you all.
